How well do you know your voice

Writing, whether fiction or non-fiction, is more complicated than we think. We don’t just write a book like we speak in our regular day-to-day conversations with friends. The voices in our souls seek expression, but how to let this flow in our writing is the big question. How in tune we are with ourselves is crucial to writing any kind of story.

Becoming familiar with our writing voice is getting to know what is below the surface in our subconscious mind. By the time we become mature adults, we have buried deeply so much of who we are, that it sometimes hinders us from writing from the heart.

    • Thanks for visiting, Yvette! Pat has given us some great advice here. I see our ‘voice’ as where our stories emerge from and how we express them. Given the same topic, each writer will write it differently because their voice is uniquely theirs.
